Where can I get my old Birkenstocks repaired?

It's important to have your Birkenstocks repaired with genuine Birkenstock materials, so try to find an official Birkenstock repair shop. (There are more durable sole materials on the market for resoling Birkenstocks but they don't have the right blend of "cushiness" and stretchability to go along with the cork footbed. When the harder sole material is used for a resole, the cork ends up doing more flexing and usually breaks down very quickly.)

You can check for a local Birkenstock repair shop in the yellow pages of your phone book. Most full-service Birkenstock stores also offer repair services, either in their own shop or by arrangement with a shoe repair business.

If you don't have a repair shop near you, go ahead send your Birkenstocks to us at the address below. We can get back to you with an estimate and arrange with you for payment after we see the condition of your shoes.

How long does it usually take to finish repairs?

We know that your Birkenstocks are often your favorite shoes. You might wear them every day - that's why they need repair! Although we strive to finish repair jobs in the shortest time possible, our main goal is to provide you with a professional quality repair job. We usually estimate a week in the shop for cork footbed styles. Handstitched soles take two weeks. Boot resoles take three to four weeks.

Selecting 2nd Day Air shipping cuts down on the delivery time.

I'm debating about whether to have repairs done now (mid-summer) or wait until the weather turns colder. What do you think?

If the cork is still in pretty good shape, waiting a while is a good plan. You could really get the full life out of the soles you have now. However, we do encourage you to replace worn soles before the wet weather of winter sets in to avoid problems such as slipping on wet linoleum floors.

I notice that I wear out the sole on my heels much faster than the front part. Can I get just the heels redone?

*Unfortunately, we cannot do this repair at this time due to a lack of parts.*

Can I get the whole cork footbed replaced?

Yes. On many shoes, we can replace every part except the uppers. You end up with an almost brand new pair of shoes (and they need to be broken in just like a new pair). Send us a note that includes the specific style of shoe in question and we'll let you know what we can do. (You can also see the price list for pricing.)

Sometimes sandals are not as far gone as you think. There may be a lower-cost alternative, but we need to see your sandals to make recommendations.

On sandals that are near the brink of retirement, it is often difficult to read the size in the liner. If you know what size they are or if you want to switch to a different size or width, please include this information in a note when you send in your sandals.

Can I return or exchange new shoes that were specially modified?

No. We are unable to accept returns or exchanges on any new shoe that has been modified by the repair department.
